Managing Stress:
I am strictly going to be focusing on how you can manage your stress as a student in University because it can very easy to feel overwhelmed. Adjusting to the workload, class setting, a new city, living alone, etc. can be a very difficult and overwhelming experience. Adjusting will not be easy, however you have to work towards it and take it one day at a time if you want to be successful inside and outside of the classroom as well being mentally healthy.
A tip for adjusting to the workload is to begin all assignments early and turning them in ahead of the due date so that way, the workload does not pile up. That does not mean to do all assignments quickly and turning in low quality work for the sake of getting it out of the way- no. It means taking all the time necessary to produce and turn in your best work. You might have been able to get away with procrastination in High School, you will not be able to do the same in college. And do not take that as a challenge.
Another thing I recommend is finding your hobbies and things that you can do which put you in your "Zen mode." It may sound silly, but chances are the hobby you have now will not be the one you enjoy the most once you try something new which is why it is important to venture and find what that one thing is. For me, this hobby is yoga because it is my way de-stressing and not feeling overwhelmed. UTSA offers so many different activities that you can try and see how well they work for you. For some it could be playing music, producing art, balancing on a tightrope, etc. You have to find the one thing which helps you relax.
Talking to someone will also help you alleviate the stress you might be feeling. There is always someone who is willing to listen you and there are also counseling services at UTSA. Developing these habits now is important for other unhealthy habits not to form such as stress-eating.
Best of luck future graduates!

So easy, yet so few students do this. Great advice!

A tip to getting more involved in the university is to follow the school's social media pages on twitter, instagram, snapchat, and possibly other social medias. Utsa has many pages to help you stay involved like a student activity page, an inclusion page, a future roadrunner page, and several more.

UTSA has so much to offer, it can get overwhelming. It's best to find a couple of ways to get involved that help you move toward your goals and don't forget to find your passion so you'll know your goals.

Although it is important to go out and be involved, it is more important to not overwhelm yourself, especially your first year of college. You should go out and find things that you like and that interest you and join a club or maybe two but not so many that you are struggling to find time for important stuff like your homework or time for yourself. By being sure not to overload your plate, you will be more likely to not be too stressed out

Very good advice, Xavia. Drinking water, eating vegetables and walking whenever you can will go along way to helping you feel as good as you can. The better you feel, the better you will do.

An important tip is to eat right and to exercise. In college it is easy to form bad eating habits which can be harmful to our health. We need to be sure to make healthy eating choices and to get some type of physical activity in almost daily. This physical activity can be going to the gym or even something as simple and easy as going for a walk.

Yes, yes and yes! I advocate an electronic calendar as well so you can receive alerts about where you should be when. It's easy to get overwhelmed when you start a new routine. Electronic alerts will help.

A tip to help manage time, as well as stress, is to use a planner to help you keep track of all your work. At the beginning of the semester, after you receive your syllabus from all your courses you should take some time to sit and write down all of the due dates of assignments, tests, readings, etc.

A tip to help adjusting easier is to create a routine to do everyday. Once you start doing things repeatedly you begin to form habits. So you should try to create positive habits like study habits, or work habits. For example, you could make going over your notes or looking over your textbook every night or every other night for thirty minutes before you go to bed a regular thing so that it becomes a routine.
